Demand high for local yoga teacher’s all-natural skincare line

Whether it be growing up on one of the Hawaiian Islands or leaving a public relations career to teach yoga, Leana Hosken has made it her passion to lead a life that is filled with spirit, peace and good health.
Hosken’s most recent endeavor consistent with such an existence is the unveiling her own all-natural skincare line called LeiAna Pure Skin Care that comprises five products – facial cleanser, toner and moisturizer, along with a shower gel and a body lotion.
Hosken teaches classical Hatha yoga in the Rancho Santa Fe and Del Mar areas and has been an instructor since 2001. Hosken was first introduced to yoga as a child from her aunt and has always incorporated it into her fitness routine over the years, but became really serious about yoga roughly 13 years after suffering from a back injury.
"One day I decided I was going to do it and I went to a teacher-training program," said Hosken about become a yoga teacher, "and I wasn’t sure if it was going to be a sabbatical from my traditional work [in marketing and public relations] or if I was actually going to make a full life change. And I ended up doing so and I am very happy with it."
In 2003, Hosken accompanied a friend to a herb farm where they made all natural, botanical skin care products, and the rest is history as Hosken soon began making skin care products out of her kitchen. She launched LeiAna Pure Skin Care in December of 2005.
"I was making it for friends as gifts and then people started wanting to buy the products and then it became a little overwhelming," she said with a laugh, "so I decided I would go ‘big time’ and hire a manufacturer and work with a chemist. It took me about six months to find a good merger of a manufacturer and a chemist who would do the products naturally. I wanted nothing synthetic and 100 percent natural and botanical with no animal testing or products. I wasn’t going to do it otherwise."
Raised in Kailua on Oahu in the Hawaiian Islands, Hosken relocated in Massachusetts for college and earned her bachelor’s degree in 1991. Soon after, Hosken moved to San Diego and began a career in marketing and public relations – a field she stayed in for more than 10 years – working in both the private sector and recently a nonprofit group called Partnerships With Industry that assists adults with developmental disabilities in the area of the work force.
Hosken developed the LeiAna Pure Skin Care line after a year of studying ingredients and devising a satisfactory formula followed by "extensive" human testing. The products contain pure botanical ingredients such as aloe, green tea, rosehips, hibiscus extract, seaweed extract, and vitamin E.
"They are extraordinarily effective and very gentle," said Hosken. "I worked with many different skin types, both young and old. People with a lot of skin issues find that these products are very soothing. People have found that they like how the products work with their skin."
